Gallery of the Ocean Realm ArtBaselOnline is an internet 'channel' intended to showcase artists, art galleries and art-related events leading up to Art Basel Miami Beach. Take a look at a couple of sample clips recorded July 13 and 14 in the Miami Design District: MiniVision - Gallery Walk. The Eye of the Hippo. I had seen African art on a corner in front of a McDonald's on several occasions, and drove by. This time, I decided to stop. Turns out, the U.S. distributor for crafts from the Woloof tribe in Senegal, West Africa has decided to try a form of 'gorilla' marketing. His plan is to move his Woloof Collection from corner to corner, looking for 'drive by' clients. Since he didn't have a website, I thought I'd set up an 'AfriKen' Showcase for him and provide a stage for his elephants, giraffes, etc. And, of course, 'Happy' a 12" hippo. Take a look, if you have time: CoralGablesOpera. Sense of Perspective Over the years, I've developed an appreciation for the environment. I guess it's a case of 'you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone,' but I see changes that are of great concern. So, a lot of my video has an environmental theme. I was in the snow ski business in New Jersey and Pennsylvania in the '70s, when it got cold by Thanksgiving, and stayed that way until Easter. Now, winters are generally milder and shorter, but more extreme. I discovered South Florida in early 80s, when I got into the cruise industry. At that time, Carnival had one ship. Now, it is the most dominant cruise line in the world with 22 ships marketed as 12 brands. I learned to scuba dive in a rock quarry in New Jersey when Jacques Cousteau was swimming with the fish in his undersea world. Now, Jacques is gone, and so too are most of the fish. We slaughter seals in Canada, for no apparent reason. We kill sharks to make soup with their fins, like that's a good reason. Or, we just catch and kill, and call it sport-fishing. This is sad, isn't it?
According to a March 2007 report from the Environmental News Network, at the present rate of consumption, the stock of edible seafood will be depleted by 2048.
